As the president of the Atascadero Optimist Club, I look forward to the coming year filled with many exciting events! One of my goals this year is to involve as many kids in our events as possible.
We partner with the Paso Robles Optimists Club to provide free fishing derbies to children under the age of 15. Our first one is coming on May 25!
On June 22, 2019 we will have our annual Wine Festival Golf Tournament. This event provides funding for scholarships for high school seniors who wish to enter a two year program.
We are a fun group and welcome new members! We meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 6:00 pm at at Outlaws Bar and Grill in Atascadero. Come join us!
Sandy Edmunson, Atascadero Optimist Club President
By providing hope and positive vision, Optimists bring out the best in youth, our communities and ourselves.
To develop optimism as a philosophy of life utilizing the tenets of the Optimist Creed;
to promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs; to inspire respect for the law;
to promote patriotism and work for international accord and friendship among all people;
to aid and encourage the development of youth, in the belief that the giving of one’s self in service to others will advance the well-being of humankind, community life and the world.
Besides providing scholarships and organizing local fishing derbies, we enjoy giving back to our community. Here are a few recent activities:
We helped a student raise money at her middle school for summer camp.
Our club helped send a local Boy Scout to Jamboree in Washington, D.C.,
We financially assisted a group of 5th graders in the district to attend SLO String Orchestra at Cuesta College;
Colony Days always has an Atascadero Optimist Club booth;
Club members have hosted precincts in "Adopt-A- Poll" elections;
We gather warm clothing for Coats for Kids;
Our club prepares meals for ECHO homeless shelter and has supported their Long Walk Home fundraiser.
We organize a booth, games and prizes at Atascadero's Children's Day in the Park!
We are a member of the Atascadero Chamber of Commerce and a few members attend quarterly conferences to stay current in Optimist International activities.
You do not have to be involved in every project! Members can be as active as they would like to be!
